SERA 2019

May 2-5, 2019

Our Pirate Extravaganza will be held at the beautiful Lazy G Wedding Chapel in Union Grove, Alabama.  It is a large, secluded property south of Huntsville and the TN River at the foot of the mountain, with luxurious cabins, dining hall, patio and bar, and hot tub surrounded by hundred of acres of woods and fields.  We will have it all to ourselves.

The main camping area will be across the creek and out in the mostly-open area.  Limited camping closer to the venue area can be gotten if you are early enough.  There will be a quiet camping area back down the road outside of registration, in front of the first cave entrance.  There is grass and electricity out there, even.

I mentioned the first cave.  There are two good horizontal caves on the property, and there are several more vertical caves that can be walked to from the site.  The Bolden/King’s Spring route will be hard-rigged for a through trip.  There are a large number of good caves in the area and the guidebook and cave information booth will steer you in the right direction.

We hope that you can get into the pirate spirit with suitable costume and pirate-type language.  Members of the crew will be serving FREE BEER (3 kegs each on Friday and Saturday night) to pirates only.  We are an inclusive crowd, and welcome pirates of all types: conventional sailing ones, space pirates like Han Solo/Chewbaca, Firefly crew, etc. But you have to show your pirate bona fides with some kind of costume element – eye patch, laser blaster, etc.  And of course the SERA2019 T-shirt qualifies as official “pirate costume.”

We will be having a wonderful banquet in galley on Saturday evening, courtesy of Bubba’s Catering in Huntsville. There will be both meat and vegetarian options.

We will be having music as either karaoke or your favorite mix on Friday night, and then a DJ in the patio/beer area on Saturday night..  You are invited to submit tunes ahead of time if you want to get them on the playlist.

The Huntsville Cave Rescue Unit and Brindley Mountain VFD will be putting on a rescue breakfast on Sunday morning. Tickets can be purchased as part of pre-registration and proceeds go entirely to the rescue squads in support.

Image shows the view on entering the main area.  The vendors will be straight ahead in the central area under the trees, with the dining/party locations to the back left, and the primary camping area out to the right.

Some rules will apply:

  • No Pets
  • No ATVs
  • All fires must be in above-ground, portable fire pits
  • No smoking in ANY of the buildings or cabins

Please join the SERA 2019 – Pirates of the Carabiner Facebook group to get any additional announcements that may occur before the event starts.
