    "Join us us for a weekend of Preserve Maintenance, Camping and Caving at The Charles B. Henson Cave Preserve.

    The Charles B. Henson Cave Preserve at Johnson’s Crook boasts over 40 caves including Johnson’s Crook Cave, Lost Canyon Cave and Gypsy Cave. The most significant caves on the preserve are Johnson’s Crook Cave and Lost Canyon. Johnson’s Crook Cave is 7,160 feet in length and has been a popular destination for over 40 years. Lost Canyon Cave has proven a popular destination since the SCCi acquired it in 2012. Lost Canyon is one of Georgia’s deepest caves at 352 feet with an entrance drop 114 feet deep.

    The 2024 Spring Mississippi Valley Ozark Region (MVOR) will be on Earth Day weekend, at the Shrine Campground near Buckhorn, MO.

    This is 8 hours 20 minutes away from Huntsville, AL.

    Are you interested in getting some basic cave rescue training? The Indiana Karst Conservancy (IKC) will be hosting an Orientation to Cave Rescue (OCR) class in Fayetteville, IN on the weekend of May 18-19 so save the date! More information and registration links will be available later this spring - stay tuned!

    Orientation to Cave Rescue is a two-day course offered by the National Cave Rescue Commission (NCRC). There are no prerequisites or skill check-offs for the class. This one is highly recommended for those who lead caving trips or find themselves in and around caves often.

    Fayetteville, IN is about a 6.5hr drive from Huntsville, AL.

    • Lonestar preserve Bonnieville Kentucky

    Speleofest is an annual caving event in Kentucky that takes place on Memorial Day Weekend. It was started in 1972 by the Louisville Grotto and has continued ever since. Proceeds from the event have allowed the Louisville Grotto to purchase the Lone Star Preserve in Bonnieville, Kentucky, which functions as a permanent location for Speleofest and a year-round educational facility for caves and karst. The Lone Star Preserve has grown to 126 acres in recent years and has 6+ caves on the property, 3 of which have over 500 feet of passage.

    Karst-O-Rama (KOR) is the annual caving convention hosted by the Greater Cincinnati Grotto (GCG). 

    This is about a 5 hour drive from Huntsville, AL.

    "Join us in Sewanee, Tennessee for the 2024 NSS Convention. Held on the campus of St. Andrews-Sewanee School, 2024 marks a return to one of the premier caving areas in the United States."

    NSS Convention is a premier week-long event about everything caving. There will be seminars on a variety of topics including exploration, conservation, education, and more. The NSS Vertical Section as well as The Gauntlet SRT Ropes Course will be present to learn or hone your vertical skills. Being in the heart of TAG, trip and project sign ups will also be plenty.

    The Huntsville Cave Rescue Unit (HCRU) will be hosting an orientation to cave rescue techniques this summer. "Technical Rescue Personnel: Cave Rescue Awareness, Operations, and Technician" is an NFPA accredited class with cert and non-cert options available through the Alabama Fire College.  

    If you haven't taken a cave rescue class yet, taking one will make you a valuable, skilled, and safer caver. If you are interested in joining the HCRU, it is not necessary that you take this class but it will help make you a competent rescuer.

    TAG Fall Cave-In 2024 will not be on Columbus Day weekend this year. It will be the weekend before, on October 3rd-6th.
