WHAT IS THE SERA CAVE CARNIVAL?
The SERA Cave Carnival is the Southeastern caving community’s longest-running yearly celebration of Caves and Caving. Attendance hovers around 300 of your best caving friends. Not as big as the TAG Fall Cave-In, but still a lot of fun. Each year the SERA Cave Carnival is hosted by a different grotto. The location is also different each year so that everyone gets a chance to hang out in a different neck of the woods and more importantly to be close to an awesome set of caves you may not have had a chance to visit before. This year the 68th annual SERA Cave Carnival is being hosted on May 2nd through 5th by the Huntsville Grotto at the Lazy G Wedding Chapel in Union Grove, Alabama which is located just south of Huntsville and the Tennessee river near Brindlee mountain.

HOW DO I ATTEND?
You can register online here (this is the preferred method), or you can print and mail in a registration form. You can save a few bucks over the at-the-door price by Pre-Registering for the event from January 25th through April 1st. After that, the price increases to the regular rate. The SERA cave carnival begins at NOON ON THURSDAY and ends SUNDAY AT NOON. If you arrive early, plan on staying elsewhere until Thursday. You will not be allowed in early.

SHOULD I PLAN ON CAMPING?
The vast majority of people camp out for the event – it’s half the fun! Besides, the closest hotels are roughly 15 miles away. The camping is primitive, with no electrical hookups, but the campground is excellent and mostly flat. All campsites are first come first served. A specially designated quiet camping area will be provided. There are clean portable toilets in multiple locations across the site and a shower house with hot water. There are gear washing/decontamination stations onsite also. We allow individual campfires, but they must be fully contained within above-ground, portable fire pits which are not provided.  We also have a caving gear vendor area, with some of the finest vendors each year. There will be a banquet dinner offered on Saturday night and a hot breakfast on Sunday morning. Advanced purchase is highly recommend as on-site tickets will be very limited. CELL SERVICE IS IFFY ON SITE. PRE-PLAN ACCORDINGLY!

CAN I BRING MY RV?
Yes and no. Smaller campers OK (less than 20′). The site was not designed or intended for RV’s. All sites are first come first served. The roads are minimally improved and large trucks may sink into the mud. There are no electrical hookups, and we do not allow generators (even quiet ones built into campers) so plan on boondocking. We also do not have any dump stations. We much prefer tents or small pop up campers. BE WARNED – LARGE 5TH WHEEL AND CLASS A CAMPERS MAY BE TURNED AWAY DUE TO MASSIVE SIZE.

CAN I BRING MY ATV?
Please no mini bikes, ATV’s or other small motorized vehicles in the campground.

ARE DOGS ALLOWED?
We love dogs, but unfortunately no animals are allowed.

WHAT IS THERE TO DO?
Besides caving your tail off, there are lots of things to be done on-site or nearby. Firstly, there are many excellent caves only a few miles from the site, and hundreds more within an hour’s drive. We have a Hot Tub, hiking, biking, nearby canoeing / kayaking, Friday and Saturday socials, cave information booth, squeezebox, and music! And, we’re cavers, so you know that we’re some of the friendliest of folks – stop in and chat for a bit, anywhere you find yourself!

NO BOMBS OR FIREWORKS.
Due to past unfortunate circumstances please no fireworks or explosive devices.

NO FIREARMS OR WEAPONS

NO SMOKING INSIDE THE BUILDINGS
